Underlying Themes:

1) Men experience women from the outside in.  Women experience men from the inside out.  Understanding and accepting men and women’s different approaches to each other and to relationships tends to end disappointment and enables the fun to begin!!

2) Most marriages, to one degree or another, are wonderful opportunities to grow 
This is caused by the fact that we tend to attract people into our lives that are the least likely to play the part we most need played.  Understanding this principle (called the principle of “opportunity”) can a) provide the spiritual growth you yearn for b) assist you in discovering the truth about who you really are, and most importantly, c) assist you in providing each other with what you each need.  Come to seminar to learn how the whole frustrating, yet beautiful picture rolls out.

3) An open heart is a much better defense against heart-ache, than a closed one. 
Disappointments in life sometimes lead to layers of protectiveness.  That’s understandable.  But before you put up too many road blocks, join us in examining the results of a closed heart and a concrete step toward opening it.

John Canaan.  John studied Family Science at BYU and his experience with presenting workshops also began at BYU with Dr. Elmer Knowles.  John worked as a full-time life coach with Dr. Dennis Waitley’s “Winning for Life” team here in Salt Lake.  John has done hundreds of hours of personal dating consulting, marriage and couples coaching and has presented to groups throughout the country, including a recent appearance with Dr. John Gray (“Men are from Mars…) in Salt Lake City. 

John is the author of a 350 page book entitled “Sending the Right Message – 9 Guidelines Toward Healthy and Loving Relationships” and is the presenter for the “Sending the Right Message” weekend retreats.  John’s personal mission is to strengthen relationships (singles and couples) and feels that his own relationships challenges have distilled within him priceless insights, practices and principles to strengthen others in their relationships.  He has a special gift for bringing the greatness out in people and assisting them in seeing the essence of what is happening in their lives and their relationships.  His presentations are inspiring and encouraging. 

John Canaan is also a gifted singer and songwriter.  He is the original voice of Michael McLean’s You’re Not Alone and is the male vocalist on the Together Forever video.  Long time intermountain residents may also know John from his regional #1 hit song What If I Loved You.  More recently John can be heard on the Sounds of Sunday (106.5 and FM100).
